Introduction of configurable items

A new type of item appears in ALIX, configurable items. These items make it easier to manage variations based on an attribute such as color and size. Please note that in the this first version, only a single attribute may be used per configurable item.

A configurable item is broken down into two subtypes: the variant item according to the option of the chosen attribute and the base item serving as a reference for all the variants. The main advantage of this configuration comes from the centralized maintenance of several values from the base item. This item only serves as a template for all variants and cannot be used directly in the different ALIX modules. Variant items behave like standard items in other modules.

Now here is how to create a configurable item and its main functions:
  1. When creating a new item, a new option is available to make the item configurable and create the base item. Enabling this option requires selecting an attribute. Following the creation of the item, the configurable status as well as its attribute can no longer be modified in order to guarantee the integrity of the data.

  2. In the base item, two buttons have been added to the general page in order to create variants and to update the synchronized values of the base item to the variants.

  3. Additionally, a new section directly within the item allows you to quickly navigate between the base item and variant items:

  4. Synchronized fields in variants from the base item are read-only or disabled. For manufactured items, the bill of materials (BOM) is hybrid with the components coming from the base which will be overwritten with each update and the components specific to the variant which will be kept.

Introduction of custom services

Custom Services are a new item type that currently specifically addresses the needs of contracting companies who transform a customer-supplied item into a new variant item based on an attribute such as paint color or metal plating. “Personalized service” type items can only be used in customer orders in order to quickly find a configuration that has already been made from a customer item or to generate a new manufactured item. This new feature uses the concept of configurable item explained above.

Here are the steps for using a “custom service” type item:
  1. Create a new custom service type item. This item will correspond to the generic transformation service offered to customers for parts. Ex. Metal part plating

  2. Configure the personalized service by determining the manufacturing steps and the generic components required.

  3. Creation of the raw item provided by the customer for the service. This item will be a standard item, but must have the "Customer Consignment" configuration enabled in order to be used with the personalized service.

  4. Creating the sales order or quote using the custom service item. These items must be added to an order line like all others, but it requires additional configuration before saving.

  5. When setting up personalized service on the order, an assistant will ask questions in sequence to prepare the order easily.

  6. During the first step of the wizard, it will be required to indicate the chosen recipe of the personalized service, the option for the attribute as well as the raw part provided by the customer for the service.

  7. The second step will check if this transformation has already taken place or if a new processed part must be generated to satisfy the customer order.

  8. An optional additional customer logging step can be used at the end of the wizard if necessary.

  9. Once the wizard is completed, the customer order can be saved and if necessary, the new finished product will be created in the item sheet based on the recipe from the personalized service and information from the customer's raw part. This new part can be finalized using the item sheet directly accessible from the customer order if necessary.

Dynamic price calculation

The selling price of items can now use two new modes in addition to the already existing static mode, namely the "Calculated card price" and the "Selling price of sub-components". These two modes already existed on the cards in the "Model" type projects.

  1. The calculated price of the card: Corresponds to the planned hourly selling rate of employees and equipment determined in the configuration of the value chains in addition to the costs of subcontracting and raw materials.
  2. The selling price of the sub-components: As its name indicates, takes only the selling price of the sub-components in the assembly in order to determine the price of the assembled product.
Other improvements will eventually come to allow better control over the calculated sales prices.

Minor improvements

  1. It is now possible to generate production cards directly in the sales order using the production wizard. The production cards generated through the order can be found directly by clicking in the production section.

Corrections

  1. Fixed some visual issues on grids that may not show columns that should be displayed in certain contexts.
